Soft Coral Propagation

Introduction

This brief pictorial article demonstrates the process of a coral being propagated.

Cutting The Coral

The selected branch is cut with scissors leaving the adult plant in place, and is as undisturbed as possible. This cutting is being taken by Mark from his Medusa Coral (Cladiella sp), which grows very quickly in his reef tank.

Attaching The Coral

Here the coral is being placed onto the rock, achieving the right tension on the elastic band is essential, to tight and the coral will be torn, to loose and it will not stay in place.

Working Dish

Once you are happy the cutting is secure, place it back into your dish, prior to placing it back in your aquarium.

Back In The Aquarium

After only three hours these Cladiella cuttings have started to expand.
